About fosshost.com
Honoring the Original Fosshost
The original Fosshost was a UK-based nonprofit that provided free hosting for open source software projects from approximately 2020 to 2022. When it shut down, it left a gap — a genuine need for quality, ethical hosting recommendations for the FOSS community.
fosshost.com is not affiliated with the original project, but it exists to serve the same community need: helping developers, nonprofits, and small teams find hosting that respects software freedom. We do this through honest research, detailed comparisons, and practical guides.
Our Mission
Free and open source software deserves hosting that aligns with its values. Not hosting that merely "tolerates" FOSS projects while imposing proprietary restrictions, extracting excessive rents, or creating vendor lock-in.
This site exists to cut through the noise and provide:
- Honest evaluations of FOSS-friendly hosting providers
- Structured comparisons with real data
- Practical guides written by people who've deployed real infrastructure
- Clear pathways to managed hosting when self-hosting isn't the right fit
What We Are Not
- Not a hosting reseller — we may use clearly disclosed referral links, but reviews are editorial
- Not a managed hosting provider — see OpsHelp for that
- Not affiliated with any hosting provider — opinions are our own
- Not a replacement for reading documentation — we link to primary sources
Affiliate Disclosure
Some links to hosting providers on this site are affiliate links. If you sign up through these links, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Affiliate links are clearly marked with a disclosure notice on host profile pages.
Our reviews and recommendations are editorial. We do not accept payment for inclusion in our directories or for favourable reviews. The FOSS Scorecard on each host profile is based on objective criteria, not commercial relationships. If a host profile is sponsored, it is clearly labeled as such.
See our advertise page for information about sponsored placements and partnerships.
Corrections & Suggestions
This is a living resource. If you spot an error, have additional information, or want to suggest a new host, email us at contact@opshelp.com. We review every message and update pages when the facts change.
We maintain high standards for inclusion:
- Providers must have genuine FOSS-friendly policies (not just marketing claims)
- We don't include hosts with predatory ToS (no "no competing services" clauses)
- Guides must be specific and practical, not generic "best practices" fluff
- Comparisons must score based on objective criteria, not alphabetical order
About OpsHelp

Think of fosshost.com as the research phase, and OpsHelp as the "hand it off and forget it" option.
