Evolution Host's origin in the game server hosting world means they understand the value of unrestricted environments. They don't impose software restrictions on their VPS or dedicated server products — run what you want, how you want.

Their free DDoS protection (up to 1 Tbps) is a genuine value-add for FOSS projects that might attract unwanted attention. Most budget hosts charge extra for DDoS mitigation or don't offer it at all. ISO mounting is supported for custom OS installs.

Setup & Management

VPS instances are managed through Evolution Host's custom control panel, where you can reinstall the operating system, reboot, access a console, and mount a custom ISO. Standard Linux templates (Ubuntu, Debian, CentOS, Fedora, Arch) are available out of the box, and the ISO option covers anything else that boots on KVM, including FreeBSD.

The DDoS protection is always-on at the network edge, so there is nothing to configure for it to take effect. As with most unmanaged VPS providers, day-to-day server administration is on you — set up SSH key auth, a firewall, unattended security updates, and an off-server backup routine before you put anything important on it.

Caveats & Gotchas

Evolution Host is European-only (UK, Germany, France, Poland), so there are no US or Asia-Pacific locations — latency to those regions will be high. The entry VPS tiers are compute-light, which is fine for lightweight services but limiting for heavier workloads.

The custom control panel is basic compared to a cloud-native dashboard, and as a smaller provider Evolution Host does not offer the scale, managed services, or 24/7 enterprise support of a hyperscaler. Treat it as solid unmanaged infrastructure with a useful free DDoS perk, not a managed platform.
